What is Geocaching? Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.

How do you pronounce Geocaching? You pronounce it Geo-cashing, like cashing a check.

What is the meaning of the word Geocaching? The word Geocaching refers to GEO for geography, and to CACHING, the process of hiding a cache. A cache in computer terms is information usually stored in memory to make it faster to retrieve, but the term is also used in hiking/camping as a hiding place for concealing and preserving provisions.

I started geocaching around mid-August after picking up a Garmin Nuvi 760 for my wife. The unit is best suited for car use, but wanted to try it anyway. Most of my finds have been by bicycle, so this has given me a way to get out and get a little exercize.
